FAQ
Answers before you register.
Does every UK company need to register?+
Almost every UK business that processes personal data — customers, employees, contacts — must pay the ICO data protection fee. A short list of exemptions applies (some not-for-profits, purely personal use). We check eligibility as part of the intake.
What are the ICO fees?+
Tier 1 (micro): £52/year. Tier 2 (small/medium): £78/year. Tier 3 (large): £3,763/year. Our £125 covers our setup work and the first year's Tier 1 fee — higher tiers add the ICO differential at cost.
What if I don't register?+
The ICO can issue penalties up to £4,350 for non-registration. It's one of the most enforced compliance breaches for UK small businesses.
Do you handle GDPR compliance too?+
Registration is the first step. Our starter kit covers the day-one documents (privacy notice, cookie policy, ROPA). For deeper GDPR audits or DPO-as-a-service, ask a specialist.
Do I need to register if I use email marketing?+
Yes — email marketing counts as processing personal data. You'll also want to ensure your consent capture meets PECR requirements, which we cover in the privacy notice template.
