The EIN, plainly

Four honest answers — straight from the IRS playbook.

01

What it is

A 9-digit federal tax ID the IRS assigns to a U.S. business. It's the tax version of your company's fingerprint — one entity, one number, forever.

02

Who needs one

Any U.S. LLC or Corporation opening a bank account, taking card payments, hiring staff, or filing a federal return. In practice: almost every real business.

03

How you apply

Through IRS Form SS-4, filed online, by fax or by mail depending on the entity and whether the responsible party has an SSN.

04

What it isn't

It's not a business license, not a state tax ID, and not permission to trade. It only identifies you to the IRS and to institutions that check with the IRS.

Who applies

Six moments you'll be asked "what's your EIN?"

If any of these is on your near-term roadmap, filing the EIN first saves days of back-and-forth later.

New LLCs & Corporations

You just formed a U.S. company and every next step — bank, Stripe, payroll — is asking for a federal tax ID.

Opening a U.S. business bank

Mercury, Relay, Wise Business, Chase and Bank of America all require an EIN on the application.

Payment processing setup

Stripe, PayPal Business, Shopify Payments and Square all verify a valid EIN before releasing payouts.

Hiring your first employee

The IRS requires an EIN before you can run payroll or file employment tax returns.

Working with U.S. clients

American businesses ask for a W-9 with your EIN before they can pay you and issue a 1099.

Non-resident founders

You live outside the U.S., own a U.S. LLC or Corporation, and need the EIN filed the international way.

What's included

Everything within our control, done right.

01

Form SS-4 prepared for you

We complete every line item the way the IRS expects — entity type, responsible party, reason for applying, principal activity — so nothing bounces back.

02

Filed directly with the IRS

Submitted through the correct IRS channel for your entity and country of residence. No third-party portal in between.

03

CP575 confirmation delivered

The official IRS confirmation letter — the one banks and Stripe insist on — sent straight to your inbox as soon as it's issued.

04

No SSN? No problem.

Non-U.S. founders get the same EIN, filed the international way. You don't need to be a resident or hold a Social Security Number.

05

Entity-matched intake

Different rules apply to an LLC, C-Corp, non-profit, sole proprietorship or estate. Our intake asks only what matters for your entity type.

06

Specialist you can reach

One advisor owns your case from intake through delivery — over email, WhatsApp or a scheduled call.

EIN vs. ITIN

Two different numbers. Two different jobs.

Many non-resident founders end up needing both — the EIN for the company, the ITIN for their personal U.S. tax filings.

Where founders use it

The EIN unlocks the rest of your stack.

From your first business bank to payroll and payouts — the same 9-digit number opens every door. Approvals still sit with each platform; the EIN is what gets you to the application.

FAQ

Everything founders ask before filing.

Still unsure? Case review is included — a specialist reviews your setup before we file.

Do I need an SSN to get an EIN?+

No. Non-U.S. residents get EINs every day. The IRS has a dedicated route for international applicants — we file through it on your behalf.

How fast will my EIN arrive?+

Domestic filings with a U.S. responsible party can come through in a single business day. International filings without an SSN are slower — typically 4–8 weeks — and that timing is set by the IRS, not by us.

Is the EIN the same as an ITIN?+

No. The EIN identifies a business, the ITIN identifies a person. Many non-resident founders end up needing both — an EIN for their U.S. company and an ITIN for their personal U.S. tax filings.

Can I open a Stripe or Mercury account with just the EIN?+

The EIN is what those platforms require before they'll open an account, but each one runs its own identity and risk checks. Bizvee can't guarantee any bank or processor will approve you — nobody honestly can.

What is Form SS-4?+

SS-4 is the IRS form used to request an EIN. It captures the entity's legal name, structure, formation state, responsible party and principal business activity. We prepare it for you and file it the correct way for your case.

What happens if I lose my CP575?+

The IRS only issues the original CP575 once. If it's misplaced, you'll need to request a 147C letter instead — we can help you with that as a separate service.
